Support us in signing an HM.GOV Petition

There have been some changes made to the Localism Act under the new Devolution Bill about the Terms of ACV (Asset of Community Value) status.

Many of the changes do help our cause but one aspect remains a stumbling block, that is the 'Owner' has to put the property up for sale before we now have the 'Right to Buy' (this used to be the Right to Bid but the term was recently improved)

As we are all aware the 'Owner' has not put the property up for sale (there was a short period a few years ago when he went through the motions but then withdrew) and has not been willing to negotiate around the many offers we have sent him.

As you may be aware this type of 'Hold out' tactic is a standard one used by Developers to overcome planning decisions and wear the local Council and Community down.

Many 'Ex Pub' properties are suffering in the same way, leaving the community willing to buy but unable to purchase.

Now there is a National Petition only recently lodged on the HM Gov website which is asking for an important change.

The details are below-

As you may know If this petition gets 10,000 signatures, government will respond to it.

If this petition gets 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.

Create community right to buy for empty pubs that are Assets of Community Value

Created by Adrian Wilson

Closes on 15 January 2027

We call on the Government to pass a law where pubs designated as an Asset of Community Value that are empty for 6 months or more, and where the owner refuses to sell or rent out the asset at an independently assessed fair market value, automatically trigger a community right to buy at market value.

Across England, hundreds of valued pubs are protected as Assets of Community Value, yet owners can leave them closed for years and refuse fair offers to reopen them, with no duty to act in good faith. Communities risk losing their last shared space and watch listed buildings rot. We ask the Government to give communities a real right to save their pub.

Be a supporter of the 'White Lion Project' and take the time to go to the site (Link Below) and sign the petition. This will show HM Gov you support not just the White Lion Crays Pond but all Pubs suffering from this type of 'Developer Blight'

Please... Please give your support to this Petition as it would make all the difference to us any so many other 'Blighted' Pub properties up and down the UK.

Remember we can't do this without your support
